The coffee tree goes through four different stages during its annual cycle. The coffee cherry is a fruit that is picked. Inside the cherry is a seed which is the coffee bean.
1. August - September:
Coffee trees (Pictured below) are stagnant for usually one month (Dry season).
2. September - October:
The first rains after the dry season stimulate the coffee to flower (Photo above).
3. October - May:
The cherry develops through the rainy season (They turn from green to red). Consistent rains are important during this stage (Photo above).
4. May - September:
As the dry season comes, the fruit ripens (Above left) and the coffee is harvested (Above right).
It should be noted that climatic conditions significantly influence the crop cycle. The coffee tree is highly susceptible to weather fluctuations. Too much or too little rain (or sun) can dramatically slow down, speed up or ruin the crop cycle. The results lead to early harvest or late harvest, a bumper crop or even no crop at all.
