2002
The year began with the renewal of our contract with the Café Selvanica farmers. As the coffee market continued to decline, Jungle Tech maintained the guaranteed price with the farmers. In fact, Jungle Tech paid the farmers an increase in the new contract due to the premium c offee they were producing.
In June, two roasting companies accepted the invitation to visit the farmers in Peru. Our goal for several years has been for the roasters of North America to meet the farmers that produce their coffee. The roasters were able to examine the production, cultivar and growing conditions of the coffee, interact among the growers and their families and participated in a festival which included playing soccer and eating the traditional foods of Peru. An awards ceremony came at the conclusion of our visit, providing awards to the top five farmers who were winners of the cupping competition. The trip concluded with a visit to Macu Pichu and the Inti Raymi Festival in Cusco.
K.C. also made numerous visits to the farmers in Cusco, who produce Café Inkaico and Café Amanacer. He visited their farms to assist them in producing a better crop. During the buying season we cupped each farmer lot of coffee, analyzed the moisture content and checked for visual defects. The results were communicated back to the farmers to help further improve their quality.
The last quarter of the year provided us the opportunity to make personal visits with existing clients and form new alliances with new clients. In December, K.C. went back to Peru to visit the Café Selvanica, Café Inkaico and Café Amanacer farmers with Christmas gifts from Jungle Tech and the roasters.
